The complex contains extensive natural wetlands and protected native habitats, and the Shaded Bird and Butterfly Trail is definitely worthy of exploration, as is Gator Lake. In addition, the observation tower of the Greater Texas Coastal Birding Trail site offers fine views and a visitors' center.
